Arabic:

اِسْتَوُوا، اعْتَدِلُوا، سَوُّوا صُفُوفَكُمْ، فَإِنَّ تَسْوِيَةَ الصُّفُوفِ مِنْ تَمَامِ الصَّلَاةِ

Transliteration:

Istawū, iʿtadilū, sawwū ṣufūfakum, fa-inna taswiyataṣ-ṣufūfi min tamāmiṣ-ṣalāh.

Meaning:

“Stand straight, align yourselves, straighten your rows, for straightening the rows is part of the completeness of the prayer.”

A shorter form commonly said is:

اِسْتَوُوا، اعْتَدِلُوا، سَوُّوا صُفُوفَكُمْ

Istawū, iʿtadilū, sawwū ṣufūfakum.

“Stand straight, align yourselves, and straighten your rows.”

The Imam may also say:

سُدُّوا الْخَلَلَ، وَحَاذُوا بَيْنَ الْمَنَاكِبِ

Suddul-khalal, wa ḥādhū baynal-manākib.

“Close the gaps and align your shoulders.”

Then the Imam says Allāhu Akbar and begins the prayer.
